Tom Bombadil (Dappled Forest)

Very important to the painting are the words and symbols (flowers/leaves) hidden within the painting. Two things struck when when reading about Tom; firstly the power of his voice/words are essential to his character and secondly the natural world, he is very much a man? Of nature/earth. The painting is heavily textured using a mix of Andalucia earth and modelling paste I wanted Tom to have a rustic/weatherd look, the colours used are very bright and fleeting representing a dappled forest light.

Tom Bombadil:
Hey dol! merry dol! ring a dong dillo!
Ring a dong! hop along! fal lal the willow!
Tom Bom, jolly Tom, Tom Bombadillo!
